Castle has been cancelled by ABC, serving as another casualty in this day of somewhat soul-destroying TV news. We’d known for a while that Stana Katic was set to depart the show after season 8, but the assumption was that Nathan Fillion’s Rick Castle would carry on without her. Those assumptions, it turns out, were wrong.
Castle has been running since 2009 and has a fairly fervent fan base. Among us geeks, the show’s nods towards Mr Fillion’s Firefly days were always very welcome.
Castle’s creator and original showrunner Andrew Marlowe has taken to Twitter, thanking everybody involved in making and supporting the series…
To the whole Castle family- our amazing cast, our remarkable crew, our imaginative writers & our wonderful fans, thank you for 8 amzing yrs!

ABC is clearly plotting some big changes and – one would assume – lots of new shows. As well as Castle, the network has also cancelled The Muppets, Agent Carter, Nashville and The Family, as well as opting not to pick up the mooted Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off series Marvel’s Most Wanted.
Castle’s final episode will be the season 8 finale, Crossfire, which is set to air on ABC on Monday the 16th of May.
More telly news as it happens.
